Trump Denies Kellyanne Conway Banishment
Conway Leaving Post as Senior Adviser
Trump Critics Announce Divorce
Former President Donald Trump is denying a key anecdote in a former aide's new book, saying he would have banished Kellyanne Conway from the White House if she had told him she was considering leaving her post as senior adviser.
Trump made the denial in a statement released Saturday, after Conway and her husband, George Conway, announced that they were getting a divorce.
In her book, "Unhinged," Conway writes that she told Trump she was considering leaving her post in the fall of 2018. She says Trump told her he would have "fired" her if she had done so.
Trump, however, denies that he ever said that. He says in his statement that he "never threatened to fire Kellyanne Conway" and that he "always valued her counsel and friendship."
Conway's departure from the White House was announced in August 2020. She had been a senior adviser to Trump since the beginning of his presidency.
George Conway is a lawyer and frequent Trump critic. He has been married to Kellyanne Conway since 2001.
