UK Car Industry Raises Concerns Over Brexit Rules Impact

SMMT Expresses Competitiveness Concerns, Calls for Energy Price Cap

Race to Attract Battery Production Amidst Brexit Challenges

The UK car industry has expressed concerns over the impact of Brexit rules on its competitiveness, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The SMMT has also called for a cap on energy prices to support the industry.

The manufacturing industry in the UK has faced challenges in recent years, particularly due to uncertainties surrounding Brexit and political instability. This has led to curtailed spending and reduced investment in the sector.

The news follows the announcement by Honda in 2021 that it would end manufacturing in Swindon, where it had produced approximately 150,000 cars annually. The UK government has set a target to ban the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2030, which has sparked a race to attract battery production investment.
