The Durham Police Department (DPD) is committed to protecting and safeguarding the lives and property of Durham residents. As part of this mission, the DPD maintains a staff of sworn officers and civilian employees to provide essential law enforcement services.
As of March 31, 2024, the DPD has 535 authorized sworn officer positions. Of these positions, 402 are currently filled, resulting in 32 vacancies. This represents a vacancy rate of approximately 6%.
In addition to sworn officers, the DPD also has a number of civilian employees who provide administrative, technical, and other support services. These employees play a vital role in the department's operations and contribute to its overall mission.
The DPD remains committed to recruiting and hiring qualified candidates to fill open positions and ensure that the city of Durham is adequately protected.
